Manolis Aligizakis,

He kept his dreams
ambitiously hidden in his heart
placing hope in separate
crystalline vase

along with monotony and at
the time of the longest
shadows he walked

to the shore to take in him
all he could of the endless blue
and after on his irises he painted

the beautiful little cove,
the houses, the gleaming
whitewashed chapel

he blessed them all
in the aroma of oregano
he changed his cloths

he kept tightly in his palm
a silver coin for the lone
ferryman who would take him across

Manolis Aligizakis,
