I stand on waves
of earth – χωμα
nurtured by blood-
-and-bone
of my ancestors
_____αιμα
______και
_______οστα

Σελιανιτικα silt:
_sea-watered,
__salt-fed;
_Βρονταμα soil:
___decomposed olive trees
____that once drank
_____απο τον Ευρωτα

ancient loam city
reared on fault-line,
warmed by αιωνες
of crocus sun,
nourishes roots
n death-rich humus

1

one day
my flesh, too,
will moulder
in the top-soil,
merge
with layers
of sand beneath
_deep
__in my history
___embedded
____in my culture
